Renovation

My site is temporary under “renovation”. Some features may be missing. There is something about the colors though…took so long by trial and error to make it look pleasing to the eyes (my eyes).

Survival 1

1:09 am | Tags: Thoughts

Philosophers, theologists and biologists probably asked and tried to answer this question most often: what is the purpose of our survival? or simply why do we live?

This strange question seeped into my head. And I got stuck in a “loop” when I try to address it from the biological view. My logic flows as follows:

The most important role a living organism perform during its life is reproducing.

Ok. So We live (or survive) so that we can reproduce.
But why? So that the species can continue.
Continue what? Continue to suvive.
Survive? Survive in order to reproduce?

So it becomes survive -> reproduce -> offspring grows -> reproduce -> more offsprings -> … which doesn’t seem to lead anywhere.

Let me know if you have a better answer.

Discount

Forty percent off all items!

This is often seen in boutiques, electronic stores, and most retail stores; but for a supermarket, it is rare. The supermarket across the street from my office is closing down, and all items are on clearing sale. After work, I decided to take advantage and did my grocery shopping there instead of the one near home. As the store is 8 days away from closing, more than half of the shelves are emptied and items are somewhat less organised. I did my usual thing, walking through every aisle (including the aisles with pet foods, gardening tools, and even the half empty ones) even I know some are completely irrelevant to me.

And temptation kicks in. With limited choices (many items are cleared out) and the discount, I bought all the stuffs that are usually expensive and quite unnecessary, including many snacks, spices and herbs, meat tenderizer (which I don’t think I will use), chocolate, and two cans of snails.

Yet, when you pay $25 for what’s worth over $40…. it feels good. Just good enough.

With every upside come the downside. I often buy lunch there as the food are cheap and the bakery items are fresh. Hm.. no more of that until the new Sobey’s opens in 4 months time.
