Ear Candy

“Action speaks louder than words”, but “my speakers acts louder”.

I don’t think my phrase make any sense, however, that’s not the point. The point is… I spend another fortune ( more correctly, half a fortune) to buy a set of Logitech 2.1 speakers at Future Shop.Logitech Z-2300

It is boxing day, and according to the Canadian definition, it means crazy sales everywhere. So I made my way to Future Shop (a computer/electronics store), about 5 minutes walk from home, to see what was the big deal this year. And as any other Boxing Day, the store was crowded from entrance to exit, and even a classy store turned into an outlet, with flyers lying all over the floors and on shelves. Items were misplaced or left besides the counters for those who couldn’t make up their minds. The checkout queues were at least a 20-minute wait. I browsed through several LCD monitors - there were some good deals but they were missing DVI interface, which I believed to be essential to make the monitor a good investment. I eventually got my eyes fixed on a set of speakers, the Logitech Z-2300 (specs). And it was less than half of its original price after disounts and rebates. Temptation vs. My wallet. Temptation won. And a set of speaker brought home. Luckily this type of battle doesn’t happen all that often, since I usually have a strong resistance against this type of temptation, especially with price tags over $100.

There in my room, now sits the new 200W system. The subwoofer is at twice as large and way heavier than my PC. Strange, but awesome. And instead of hearing individual speakers, sound fills the entire room. Awesome. The best part is that the silver and black color of the speakers match ideally with my keyboard and PC. Awesome again. Temptation drives me to turn the volume up and up…I just hope that my landlord wouldn’t complain about the hmm… noise level.

Next temptation: LCD monitor.

By the way, thanks to all who gave me wonderful gifts this Christmas! Thank you thank you thank you….! Here is the list of received gifts:

A day that is spent playing Prince of Persia, at home.

What, may be this is the ideal day to do just that. With November and most of the December building up the cheerful, stressful, delightful, exciting (or whatever you feel towards Christmas) mood up to the Christmas Eve, only to see it plummet down to an anticlimax. Today, a peaceful slow moving day. Almost too slow and certainly too quiet for Toronto downtown. With the malls closed, offices shut, families within their walls, the gloomy streets at noon appeared as if it was midnight.

And so it is now, midnight, time to open some presents!

Christmas Dinner

12:54 am | Tags: Diary, Job

Had a Christmas dinner with my company, at Four Seasons Hotel.

It was an exciting day. The day began as usual, getting up just to get to work on time (or actually, 15 minutes late). Well, to cut the story short, it was 11:35am and there was a proposal that needs to be submitted at 2pm, and the courier services was unable to do that (for whatever reason). We tried to get a car, but the boss was out, and nobody drove his/her vehicle. So I volunteered (or was elected, rather) to be the courier. The delivery address was somewhere near Casa Loma, a 35-45 minutes TTC ride from the office. And of course, I made it, despise the cold winter weather that challenged me. Afterall, it is mostly bus and subway train, but there is still a 10-minute walking and waiting in the cold.

When that’s done, I went for lunch on Bathurst and Yonge, at Yummy-B-B-Q. And I had my favourite there, the battered pollack with rice. It was tastier than ever, and the portion was bigger than usual, and it was hot and fresh. After a very satisfying lunch, I took the subway train back to the office. Got back at 3pm.

The rest of the day was a breeze, and don’t even look at the clock until it was way past 5. In fact, I didn’t leave the office until 6:30pm. Reason for that? The annual Christmas dinner for the company. Well, it was really only 6 of us. I could have left earlier to go home and go to the dinner by myself, but several inches of snow collected on the road in the past 3 hours prevented me from doing so. So I left the office with my boss, in his Jaguar x-type, picked up his wife, and arrived at the hotel. 7:05, just on time.

The restaurant is somewhat classy, yet reasonably affordable. $25 for a 2-course dinner is a good deal, seeing that it is a hotel; the original Four Seasons Hotel, I was told.

The conversations went relatively well, with the exception of the discussion on election and some politics, which I felt completely left out. Well, politics is just never my thing, whether it is about the world, Canada, or anywhere else for that matter.

The rest of the evening was wonderful, very nice meal ( I had a liver steak, an onion soup, and apple jack after the meal). And a free ride home.

Plus, I get an hour off tomorrow, definitely a bonus.

Ever had a tune stuck in ur head? Today, I had a word.

Urnso, that is. The problem is that I cannot find it in any dictionary. And googling only returns a handful of this uncommon word in the form of usernames. So I have decided to define it in my ick-tionary.

Urnso [ûrn-sō]1, [u-r-n-s-ho]2

n. pl. urso’s
1. A word directed to a thoroughly contemptible, detestable person.
2. An expression of displeasure in someone.

Although a noun, this word can be used alone as it is also a complete sentence. It has a subject (u), a verb (r), an article (n) and an object (so).

Sample Usage
If imnso, urnso2!

Occasionally, stupidity simply rules…. Anyways, thanks for reading. U hav jus bcom les intel-legend.
