Growing in or growing out?

2:36 pm | Tags: Thoughts

It is interesting and still quite puzzling to me why one would say a tooth grow in instead of grow out when a tooth comes out from the gum.

And why would one says fill out a form, instead of fill in a form. But then they would say fill in the blank space, and not fill out the blank space, even though the space to be filled in is on the form to be filled out.

Books to read in 2009

11:22 pm | Tags: Diary, Thoughts

There are a few books that I want to read in 2009. My goal is to read at least 25 books this year.

  • Outlier by Malcolm Gladwell
  • The Wealthy Barber by David Chilton
  • Twenty books of The Holy Bible
  • The Green Collar Economy by Van Jones

I will keep reading and keep updating this list.

Books read this year (and counting):

  • Who Moved by Cheese? by Spencer Johnson
What American accent do you have?
Your Result: North Central

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn’t think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.

Boston

The West

The Midland

The Inland North

The Northeast

Philadelphia

Impacts on life

1:17 am | Tags: Diary

It’s been three weeks since my buddy in SA passed away, and I am still feeling it. Although I haven’t seen him since last December in HK, I still feel his presence, I still expect him to come pick me up from the airport when I fly back to SA next year.

2008 has been a year of drama, with movie-plot-style twists, and surprises. I matured. I gained new friendships, bettered or worsened old relationships, experienced friends’ deaths, witnessed marriages, opened myself to different perspectives, sought and strengthened in the Truth.

His death becomes a constant reminder to me, to live a life true to myself, to live a life that make impacts on others’ lives, to live a life cheerfully.

Ken, you will always be my broer, you have made an impact in my life, a positive one.
